Last October, rumors circulated that Danielle Deadwyler, known for her role in "Till," was in talks to star as the lead in the new "The X-Files" series spearheaded by "Black Panther" director Ryan Coogler. Today, streaming platform Hulu, 20th Television, and Onyx Collective—a Disney-owned company specializing in content by and for people of color—officially confirmed Deadwyler's casting and greenlit the pilot episode.

Coogler had previously confirmed he would write and direct the pilot episode, in addition to serving as an executive producer for the entire series. For the crucial role of showrunner, he appointed Jennifer Yale, a co-writer on the series "See" and "The Copenhagen Test."
The new "The X-Files" also unveiled its story synopsis today: two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents—one of whom will be played by Deadwyler—are assigned to a long-shuttered division dedicated to investigating unexplained phenomena, forming an unexpected bond as they work together.
