"Pokémon Pokopia" Sales Spark 174% Price Surge for Ditto Cards, Igniting TCG Collection and Investment Frenzy

Nintendo and Koei Tecmo's new construction sim "Pokémon Pokopia" launched with stellar results, selling over 2.2 million units in its opening weekend. This unexpected success has sent ripples through the Pokémon TCG market, with Ditto's popularity skyrocketing and several of its cards seeing massive price hikes in a short period – some by as much as 174%!

Market data shows that the Ditto card from the 2010 "HeartGold & SoulSilver Triumphant" set jumped 49% this week, hitting an all-time high of $12.95. While still an entry-level price, this rapid increase signals a clear surge in demand.

Ditto cards from the "Black & White" era also saw a concurrent rise, climbing from $25 to $35, a 40% increase. With near-mint stock dwindling, the market anticipates this price point could become the new short-term normal.

The most astounding surge belongs to the Ditto-Squirtle variant, which rocketed from $89 to $245 – a staggering 174% jump in a short span, making it the market's current superstar. In contrast, the Charmander version from the same series saw only a modest 0.7% bump, and while the Bulbasaur version grew, it has slightly receded from its previous peak, indicating a divergence in market demand.

Analysts suggest this Ditto card boom is also tied to a recent surge in Pokémon buzz, including the 30th-anniversary celebrations, the reveal of the tenth generation "Pokémon Wind & Wave" (ポケットモンスター ウインド・ウェーブ), and news of "Pokémon FireRed/LeafGreen" returning to the Switch. These factors collectively fueled the price increase for first-generation Pokémon cards.

As "Pokémon Pokopia" continues its hot streak, Ditto cards are likely to maintain high demand in the short term. However, the market also anticipates that card prices may gradually return to normal levels once the game's hype cools down.
