Ultraman Teo, the New TV Series for the 60th Anniversary, Premieres in July, Telling the Story of the Blue Giant of Light!

Ultraman, arguably the quintessential Japanese tokusatsu hero, continues to boast immense popularity across its many series. Not only are new installments constantly being released, but this year also marks the franchise's 60th anniversary, with a slew of related events already underway.

Today (April 17), Tsuburaya Productions dropped the bombshell: a brand-new TV series, Ultraman Teo (tentative title, ウルトラマンテオ), is set to premiere on July 4th! Even better, it'll be broadcast globally in multiple languages and available for streaming simultaneously.

As the 60th-anniversary commemorative work, Ultraman Teo centers on the tale of a "lonely blue giant who lost his home." It chronicles an alien's slow but steady growth into a hero, while also revisiting the franchise's core theme: how different races—humans, Ultraman, monsters, and aliens—can overcome suspicion and conflict to achieve mutual understanding and fight side-by-side. Expect a fresh new take on this classic narrative!

The protagonist, Ibuki Mitsuishi (Teo's human form), is played by 21-year-old actor Aoi Iwasaki. Iwasaki previously participated in the "Watashi no Sotsugyo" young actor training program, rising above a thousand hopefuls before making his official debut in 2025. This marks his first lead role in a TV drama, a true realization of his dream to "become a hero."

Ibuki Mitsuishi is characterized as a gentle soul who isn't fond of fighting, but will bravely step up to save others. He's a character who grows steadily through his battles and struggles.

This time around, the production adopts a split system with separate directors for the main story and special effects. Takashi Ninomiya takes the helm as the main story director, known for his delicate portrayal of character psychology in his past TV dramas. Meanwhile, veteran tokusatsu director Takanori Tsujimoto, a master of action and visual spectacle, is in charge of crafting the jaw-dropping battle sequences. The screenplay is penned by Shigenori Tanabe.

■ Synopsis

On the distant planet H12, an alien monster attack one day led to its complete annihilation. The sole survivor, an alien named "TEO," escaped to Earth and began living as a human, "Ibuki Mitsuishi."

He's a gentle veterinary student who loves animals, though his lack of common Earth knowledge occasionally leads to some truly bewildering antics. His peaceful life takes a drastic turn when the very monster that destroyed his home planet reappears. As he resolves to "protect the lives before him," a dazzling light transforms him into the blue giant: Ultraman Teo!

This Ultraman comes with a special emphasis: he's a "hero who doesn't really like to fight." The transformation item, the "Teo Crystal," has also been revealed. It contains a special mineral from his home planet H12, allowing Ibuki to transform into the blue giant.

Following last year's Ultraman Omega, the brand-new Ultraman Teo is set to debut in July as the 60th-anniversary commemorative work. Fans are undoubtedly hyped to see what breakthroughs and surprises this series will bring. Stay tuned for more official updates!
