"ONE PIECE BASE SHOP," the official new-concept flagship store that opened in Tokyo's Shinjuku late last year, has been a magnet for fans worldwide. Its exclusive merchandise and unique interior design have made it a must-visit pilgrimage site for enthusiasts.
But hold up! On May 21st, the official channels (website and X) dropped a bombshell: starting June 1, 2026, the shop is officially implementing a "facial recognition system." The goal? To seriously crack down on scalpers and unauthorized entries, aiming to boost the overall shopping experience and curb the resale chaos.

The official announcement states: "To ensure a safer and smoother entry for all customers, a facial recognition system will be introduced starting June 1, 2026." From then on, the store will verify that the customer's identity matches their facial data upon entry. This move is designed to prevent fraudulent entries, such as using someone else's name, and to create a secure shopping environment for everyone.
The official statement also stressed that if anyone is caught trying to enter under someone else's name, not showing up in person, or attempting any other unauthorized entry, they'll be denied entry on the spot and potentially banned from future visits. "While this might cause some inconvenience," the statement read, "we ask for your understanding and cooperation to ensure all customers can enjoy our services fairly and securely."
( FYI: Currently, entry to the shop is by lottery registration. Fans looking to book a spot must first register for a "BASE CREW" account on the official "ONE PIECE BASE" app to participate. )

But wait, there's more! The store also announced new anti-resale measures for "ONE PIECE Card Game" booster pack boxes, kicking off May 30th. From that date, if you're buying a full box, staff will now cut open the outer seal right in front of you at checkout.
The official word is that only customers who agree to this "unsealed sale" policy will be able to purchase. This move is clearly aimed at putting a serious dent in scalpers' ability to flip entire sealed boxes.
