Bandai Spirits' Hobby Division has officially announced the latest entry in its High Grade (HG) model kit line from the classic anime "Metal Armor Dragonar": the "HG 1/144 Dragonar-1 with Lifter-1 Equipment Type [Special Coating]"! This premium version is slated for an October 2026 release and will be available exclusively through the official Premium Bandai online store.
The XD-01 Dragonar-1 was originally one of the state-of-the-art Metal Armors known as "D-Weapons," developed by the Giganos Empire. It was later captured by the Earth Federation and became the signature machine of protagonist Kaine Wakaba. As the first Metal Armor to implement an AI navigator, the D-1 boasts exceptional mobility and is optimized for close-quarters combat. While it initially lacked long-range capabilities, the addition of the specialized "Lifter-1" support unit granted it full atmospheric flight capabilities.
The "HG 1/144 Dragonar-1 with Lifter-1 Equipment Type [Special Coating]" is a deluxe version of the previously released standard kit. The white armor parts have been upgraded with a luxurious electroplated finish, giving them not only a high-gloss white appearance but also a brilliant, metallic sheen. To complement this stunning coating, the red and blue accent lines across the body are now rendered in metallic injection plastic, creating a cohesive, high-end look.
This kit meticulously recreates the signature honeycomb structure on the chest and features a fully articulated inner frame—a rarity for HG models. The backpack's thrusters can be displayed in their deployed state via swappable parts, and the "Lifter-1" flight unit features a functional wing-folding mechanism. The model is armed to the teeth with an extensive loadout, including "Assault Knives" that can be stowed in the calves, a "Laser Sword" that can be configured into a double-bladed mode, shoulder-mounted "Anti-MA Hand Grenades," forearm-mounted "Throwing Bombs," a "Hand Railgun" with a removable magazine, and a "Hand Rail Cannon." This arsenal allows for a wide range of dynamic and cool combat poses.
