Each installment of Tom Holland's "Spider-Man" series has featured a more senior superhero, with the upcoming "Spider-Man 4: Brand New Day" bringing back the Hulk for a cameo. However, many fans are eager to see the Hulk eventually get his own solo film, rather than just a supporting role.
While Marvel Studios is keen to launch a dedicated Hulk film series, the distribution rights have remained with Universal Pictures since their collaboration on "The Incredible Hulk." This ongoing situation has prevented the Hulk from starring in his own standalone movie, relegating him to supporting roles in other heroes' films or team-up projects.
Marvel currently has no other immediate solution to this issue and must patiently await the official expiration of Universal's distribution rights. However, long before that potential expiration, Mark Ruffalo, who portrays the Hulk, has already been brainstorming story elements for a new Hulk movie.
Recently, "Brand New Day" director Daniel Destin Cretton revealed during an interview with Variety at the film's premiere that "Mark has pitched some ideas, and they're all pretty great."
Beyond the potential Hulk film, Michael Giacchino, who has scored all four Holland "Spider-Man" installments and directed the Marvel Special Presentation "Werewolf by Night," also teased a sequel for his directorial debut at the premiere. Giacchino stated that "Every project takes a long time to incubate, a lot of planning, and everything has to align."
