Japanese model brand WAVE is set to ship its "Macross" ADR-04-MkX Defender model kit from Japan on July 30th! This 1/100 scale kit faithfully recreates the anti-air interception Destroid, a unit specifically tasked with defending the Macross ship's perimeter. Equipped with a radar system and quad rapid-fire cannons, it's designed to intercept incoming aerial targets. The kit features a snap-fit assembly that requires no glue, and articulation is provided by poly-cap joints throughout. The suggested retail price is 4,620 JPY.
In contrast to the transforming Valkyries, which shift between humanoid and fighter modes, Destroids are heavy weapons primarily designed for ground combat, defense, and fire support, forming an indispensable part of the "Macross" mechanical designs. Following their previous "MBR-04-MkVI Tomahawk," WAVE continues to expand its 1/100 Destroid series with the Defender. This kit can be displayed alongside the brand's 1/100 VF-1 series, allowing collectors to recreate the iconic unit formations aboard the Macross ship.
This new model kit condenses the intricate sculpt and mechanical details of WAVE's 2010 1/72 scale version into the more collector-friendly 1/100 scale. Each side of the unit features a prominent twin-barreled long cannon, with all four barrels capable of elevating with the shoulder joints to recreate its full-power anti-air interception pose. A large radar unit is mounted on the top of the fuselage, and the chest-mounted targeting camera can also be adjusted vertically. The entire body is rendered in a yellowish-brown armor complemented by dark green panels, with included decals for numbering, unit insignias, and warning labels to enhance the heavy, military-grade feel unique to these machines.
The "ADR-04-MkX Defender" not only retains its classic silhouette of sturdy legs, heavy armor, and four long cannons but also boasts snap-fit assembly and full body articulation. Whether posed individually in an anti-air barrage or integrated into a Macross hangar diorama with the VF-1 series, it powerfully showcases a heavy firepower charm distinct from the Valkyries.
