Fans of Osamu Akimoto's classic manga, "Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo" (often shortened to "Kochikame"), got a huge surprise this year with the announcement of a brand-new anime project titled "New Kochikame" (tentative title, 新こちら葛飾区亀有公園前派出所).
Today, on the 5th, the official team dropped the bomb with the reveal of the all-new voice cast and a fresh visual for "New Kochikame," slated to hit screens sometime in 2027.
This fresh "New Kochikame" anime project is kicking off to celebrate the series' 50th serialization anniversary in 2026. And guess who's back at the helm? Studio Gallop, the same crew that brought us the original 1996 TV anime! It's been a minute, though; the last "Kochikame" anime was the 2016 limited special, "Kochikame THE FINAL: Ryotsu Kankichi's Last Day."
It was previously confirmed that the entire voice cast would be revamped, and now we have the main lineup:
Ryotsu Kankichi: Fukushi Ochiai
Keiichi Nakagawa: Shouta Aoi
Reiko Akimoto: M・A・O
Daijiro Ohara: Yorimitsu Sakamoto
Original author Osamu Akimoto shared his excitement:
"While the visuals have continuously evolved to become more modern, they still retain that impactful visual style, which looks incredibly fun. I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of incidents will unfold next; I'm already buzzing with anticipation. Hearing the voices of Ryotsu, Nakagawa, Reiko, and the Chief makes me feel like the usual lively members of the police station are back, and I'm personally very happy about that. I can't wait for the official broadcast!"
For many fans, the original anime is an absolute classic, so a complete revamp will naturally invite comparisons. With a brand-new voice cast and production team, let's see if they can bring a fresh new vibe to the beloved series!
