Bandai's popular "MOVIE MONSTER" series, known for its beloved tokusatsu and kaiju soft vinyl figures, has announced its latest release: the "MOVIE MONSTER Giga Gatanothor" from the classic series "Ultraman Tiga," slated for release on October 3, 2026.
As the final antagonist in "Ultraman Tiga," Gatanothor is the Evil God who annihilated an ultra-ancient civilization 30 million years ago, earning the moniker "Dark Ruler" for plunging the world into darkness. This colossal entity boasts a terrifying 200-meter length, possessing overwhelming offensive and defensive capabilities that utterly suppressed Tiga's martial arts and beam attacks. Furthermore, its emanating dark mist could corrode Tiga's skin, cause death in living organisms, halt electronic equipment, and ultimately threatened to engulf the entire Earth, leading to the demise of human civilization.
The "MOVIE MONSTER Giga Gatanothor" figure's name, "Giga" (戲華), is a clever wordplay that combines the Japanese term for "gorgeous colors" with a phonetic nod to "gigantic," perfectly capturing the figure's impressive size and intricate paint applications. Crafted from soft vinyl, this figure faithfully recreates the terrifying appearance of Gatanothor's in-show suit, meticulously sculpting its horrific form which blends elements from the Cthulhu Mythos with ancient marine creatures like ammonites. Key details include its menacing, inverted head, the densely perforated shell on its back, and its massive lower body featuring giant claws and countless tentacles. The figure also boasts rich color applications, highlighting areas often difficult to render on standard soft vinyl models. Sized to complement Bandai's "Ultraman Hero Sofubi" series (14cm), this release powerfully conveys Gatanothor's imposing scale, which was significantly larger than Tiga in the series.
