Good Smile Company, a renowned Japanese figure manufacturer, has officially unveiled the painted prototype for the latest addition to its popular Nendoroid series of Q-style articulated figures. This new release, the "Nendoroid Hatsune Miku KATSUSHIKA HOKUSAI Collaboration Ver. (Rella)," stems from the "Hatsune Miku x KATSUSHIKA HOKUSAI Collaboration Project." Pre-orders for the figure are slated to begin on September 18, 2026.
This commercialized Hatsune Miku design originates from the second phase of the 2026 "Hatsune Miku x KATSUSHIKA HOKUSAI Collaboration Project," featuring an illustration by Rella. Drawing numerous elements and colors from one of KATSUSHIKA HOKUSAI's most famous Ukiyo-e works, "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji: The Great Wave off Kanagawa," the iconic towering wave is integrated into Hatsune Miku's twin-tail hairstyle and entire outfit. As she moves, her form evokes the continuous, surging whitecaps from the painting, embodying both power and beauty.
The "Nendoroid Hatsune Miku KATSUSHIKA HOKUSAI Collaboration Ver. (Rella)" transforms this design into an adorable, chibi-style figure. The intricate sculpting faithfully recreates her hair and attire, which are seamlessly blended with the great wave motif. Through detailed paintwork and printing, Hatsune Miku's clear and charming facial expressions are captured, along with the elegant colors and brushwork characteristic of Ukiyo-e. The painted prototype is currently on display at the mini-exhibition "Polaris – Icons and Artists Across Time" held at the Printing Museum, Tokyo, Japan.
