BANDAI's popular MOVIE MONSTER Series of Tokusatsu and Kaiju-themed soft vinyl figures has announced its latest release: the "MOVIE MONSTER GIGA Hedorah (1971)", slated for January 2027. This new figure is based on the monster from the Tokusatsu film "Godzilla vs. Hedorah."
The pollution monster "Hedorah", featured in the film, is a mineral lifeform that originated in space. Upon its arrival on Earth, it was severely impacted by human environmental pollution. It grew to immense size by continuously aggregating countless tadpole-like individuals and absorbing pollutants such as sludge and exhaust gases. Composed of highly toxic sludge, Hedorah's body is impervious to most physical attacks, and its potent toxicity is even capable of dissolving Godzilla's skin.
The "GIGA" in the name "MOVIE MONSTER GIGA Hedorah (1971)" is a clever play on words, combining the concept of "gorgeous colors" with "GIGA" (meaning huge). This soft vinyl figure stands at an impressive 19 cm tall, matching the scale of the standard "MOVIE MONSTER Godzilla (1971)" release. Beyond its more imposing and massive physique, the figure boasts upgraded posing, hand sculpts, and a significantly enhanced paint application compared to previous standard versions. It masterfully uses a diverse palette of colors, including red, yellow, and black, to vividly depict the heavy metals, sludge, and various pollutants that form Hedorah's monstrous body.
