At the ongoing Tokyo Game Show 2026 (TGS2026) in Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is giving attendees a first look at the highly anticipated new adult LEGO set, "LEGO 72306 PlayStation". Displayed physically in the PlayStation area of Hall 6, this brick model of the original console, set for an October release, has already generated significant buzz. Japanese media outlet HOBBY Watch was on-site, capturing and releasing multiple photos of the physical sample, allowing fans to get an early glimpse of the faithful recreation of the 90s gray console, its physical texture, and intricate internal mechanisms.
We've previously covered this officially licensed LEGO set, which meticulously recreates the original console and its dedicated controller using 1,911 brick pieces to achieve a nearly 1:1 scale replica. Beyond its authentic exterior, the model features functional controller ports. The front eject (Open) and power (Power) buttons are also designed with a spring-loaded, tactile feel, and the disc tray cleverly houses micro-scenes that pay homage to PlayStation's legendary history.
Exhibition photos reveal the console's disc lid displayed open, showcasing two intricately detailed micro-scenes within. One scene features a micro-racetrack from 1997's "Gran Turismo," while the other depicts Piposaru from 1999's "Ape Escape" wearing its iconic siren helmet. Both micro-scenes can be removed from the console and displayed independently. Under the exhibition lights, the gray brick casing and button proportions perfectly recreate the original console's silhouette, evoking a strong sense of nostalgia. The "LEGO 72306 PlayStation" is set to officially release on October 4, 2026, with LEGO Insiders members gaining early access on October 1.
