Written by En Mikami and illustrated by Hagu Koshijima, the bestselling mystery novel series The Case Files of Biblia Bookstore has already inspired a live-action television drama and a feature film.
A television anime adaptation was announced in April, and an October 3 update confirmed that the series will premiere in April 2027. The announcement also unveiled the first main trailer, four additional cast members, and character visuals for leads Shioriko Shinokawa and Daisuke Goura.
The Case Files of Biblia Bookstore is set at Biblia, a secondhand bookstore tucked away in a quiet corner of Kita-Kamakura. Its beautiful owner, Shioriko Shinokawa, possesses an extraordinary knowledge of old books and a sharp deductive mind. By examining the small clues left behind in books, she uncovers the hidden histories and secrets of the people who once owned them.
One day, Daisuke Goura, an unemployed young man who is unable to read books because of a past experience, asks Shioriko to appraise the collection left behind by his late maternal grandmother. The visit reveals a little-known episode from the past and leads him to take a job at the bookstore, setting their story in motion.
Riko Akechi voices Shioriko Shinokawa, while Shunsuke Takeuchi plays Daisuke Goura.
The four newly announced cast members are Reo Osanai as Ayaka Shinokawa, Wataru Takagi as Shida, Yohei Azakami as Kikuya Kasai, and Saeko Kamijo as Nao Kosuga.
Mamoru Kanbe, known for directing The Promised Neverland, is directing the adaptation. Toshiya Ono, whose credits include the second season of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, handles series composition, while Jun Nakai of NieR:Automata Ver1.1a serves as character designer and chief animation director. Animation production is being handled by CloverWorks.
For readers who have long hoped to see these stories animated, the confirmed April 2027 premiere gives them something to look forward to. More details are expected as the broadcast approaches.
