Akihito Yoshitomi's "EAT-MAN" Spinoff Manga "DESERT-DESSERT" Lands Serialization, Marking the Series' First New Entry in Seven Years

Akihito Yoshitomi's sci-fi series EAT-MAN announced a completely new anime, EAT-MAN The Over Order, this September, and production is now officially underway. It marks the franchise's third anime adaptation and its first since 1998, a 28-year gap.

On October 26, the official team followed up with another surprise: a new spinoff manga titled DESERT-DESSERT From EAT-MAN The Over Order. The series will begin running in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Sirius with its January 2027 issue, which goes on sale November 26.

EAT-MAN is a sci-fi manga created by Akihito Yoshitomi and originally serialized in Dengeki Comic Gao! from 1996 to 2003. Its story follows Bolt Crank, a mysterious “adventurer” who can devour metal and recreate it as an arsenal of weapons. He never speaks about his past or reveals his true objective, instead traveling the world and taking on one assignment after another. Wherever he goes, new incidents—and an inescapable destiny—await.

The original EAT-MAN was later followed by the sequel manga EAT-MAN THE MAIN DISH, which ran from 2014 to 2019.

The full title of the new spinoff, DESERT-DESSERT From EAT-MAN The Over Order, clearly points to a connection with the upcoming anime. However, the new DESERT-DESSERT name—and a key visual led by two female characters—suggests that it will tell a fresh story set within the same universe.

EAT-MAN remains a sci-fi classic, and now, after years away, it is returning with both a completely new anime and a spinoff manga serialization. The anime's premiere date has yet to be announced, so fans will have to stay tuned for further updates.
