Created by Izumi Todo, the magical-girl Anime franchise Pretty Cure is still going strong. Its 23rd installment, Star Detective Precure♪, premiered this year to plenty of fanfare, proving that Toei Animation’s long-running flagship series has lost none of its power.
On October 27, the official team announced a completely original spinoff Anime titled Dual Shadow ~Precure Villain Heroines~, scheduled to air in 2027. The keyword this time is "villain." Featuring an original cast and story unlike anything seen in previous spinoffs, the series promises to turn everything fans know about Pretty Cure upside down.
The teaser opens on a seemingly endless field of flowers bathed in warm light. Then the mood abruptly shifts as the words "After all, we’re not Pretty Cure" appear onscreen. A lone flower sways eerily beneath a spotlight, while a suspicious pair of eyes emerges in the darkness behind it. The unsettling imagery hints at a world far more sinister than anything the Pretty Cure franchise has shown before.

Commenting on the new series, Toei Animation said, "This new project is guaranteed to overturn everything longtime Pretty Cure fans have come to expect! What kind of story awaits? Stay tuned for more updates!"
The Pretty Cure franchise has been steadily expanding its spinoff lineup in recent years. The dialogue-free animated series PetitCure ~Precure Fairies~ launched in 2025, while several projects aimed at adult audiences have also arrived, including October 2023’s Power of Hope ~PreCure Full Bloom~ and January 2025’s Witchy Precure!! ~MIRAI DAYS~.
For now, no connection between the newly announced spinoff and earlier Pretty Cure entries has been revealed. Still, the teaser’s lone flower and sprawling floral landscape suggest that flowers may play a major role. The 2010 series Heart Catch PreCure also featured a flower-based theme, but exactly where Dual Shadow plans to take this imagery remains a mystery.
