TAKARA TOMY’s high-end T-SPARK hobby brand has officially revealed the latest addition to its robot-themed TOYRISE completed toy line: Ryujinmaru from the classic anime "Mashin Hero Wataru." The figure is scheduled for release in late May 2027.
The Savior’s personal Mashin, Ryujinmaru, houses the Soul of the Golden Dragon, one of the Seven Dragon Gods of Shinbu that protect Soukaizan. Its appearance was inspired by a clay sculpture created by the Savior, Wataru Ikusabe. In addition to powerful techniques such as Touryuken and Ryugaken, Ryujinmaru continually learns new moves through battle. After Kujinmaru appears, the two can combine, overcoming Ryujinmaru’s inability to fight in the air. Unlike most Mashin, Ryujinmaru can speak and act on its own. It is also skilled at rock-paper-scissors and wrestling moves and can speak every regional dialect found throughout Soukaizan.
TOYRISE Ryujinmaru is based on the original animation model sheets, faithfully recreating its sharp, heroic head sculpt and streamlined armor design. The color scheme draws inspiration from both the anime and vintage toys, with the gold areas on the head, shoulder dragon emblems, Touryuken, and other details molded in yellow plastic. The set also includes a miniature Wataru Ikusabe figure molded entirely in yellow, featuring compact, old-school proportions that directly pay tribute to the figure included with TAKARA’s 1988 "Mashin Collection No. 01 Ryujinmaru" model kit.
While the release leans heavily into nostalgia, the TOYRISE version also gives Ryujinmaru a full range of modern articulation. Its legs can spread widely at the hips, while the armor panels on either side of each toe can open outward. Pull-out shoulder joints and forward-and-back sliding shoulder mechanisms significantly expand the arms’ range of motion. Combined with the included Touryuken sword, these features let collectors recreate Ryujinmaru reaching behind its back to draw the weapon, unleashing dynamic slashing attacks, or raising the sword overhead with both hands for its signature finishing move.
