BANDAI SPIRITS' TAMASHII NATIONS collectible toy division has officially announced the first entry in their "Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team" ver. A.N.I.M.E. lineup for the ROBOT Damashii action figure series: the Gundam Ground Type, slated for a December 2021 release.
The RX-79[G] Gundam Ground Type is canonically a ground combat Mobile Suit constructed from surplus, non-standardized parts of the RX-78 series. Despite being an emergency production mass-produced model, its performance still surpassed that of the standard GM. Its exterior armor utilized the same Luna Titanium alloy as the RX-78-2 Gundam, and its power plant boasted equivalent output, making its ground combat capabilities nearly identical to its predecessor. A key feature of the Gundam Ground Type was its high parts commonality with the Ground Type GM, which allowed for easier maintenance and repair, ensuring sustained combat readiness. This also enabled it to share a wide array of weaponry, leading to variations seen in the series such as the "GM Head" Ground Type and the heavily modified Gundam Ez8.
The "ROBOT Damashii Gundam Ground Type ver. A.N.I.M.E." faithfully recreates the robust, heavy feel of the Gundam Ground Type's exterior armor. Multiple joints feature multi-axis articulation and precise part separation. The two-axis knee joints allow for armor sliding, enabling natural kneeling poses, while the segmented forefoot parts can bend significantly forward. The backpack weapon container is detachable and can open to reveal the weapons stored inside.
Both the 100mm Machine Gun and 180mm Cannon can be disassembled and stored within the weapon container. Additionally, the figure comes with a wealth of accessories, including Beam Sabers stored on the outer calves, a small shield for the left arm, and various firing effects. For collectors looking to further expand playability, ROBOT Damashii also simultaneously announced "The 08th MS Team Expansion Parts Set ver. A.N.I.M.E.," which includes a Missile Launcher, Rocket Launcher, and multiple effect parts to recreate iconic scenes from the series!
