As the weather cools and the year draws to a close, LEGO is already looking ahead to the new year with the recent reveal of two festive Lunar New Year-themed sets: the 80108 Lunar New Year Traditions and the 80109 Lunar New Year Ice Festival! Both sets are slated for a December 2021 release.
LEGO 80108 Lunar New Year Traditions
Suggested Retail Price: RMB 699 | Piece Count: 1016 | Release Date: December 2021
First up is the "Lunar New Year Traditions" set, comprised of six distinct mini-scenes. These vignettes depict classic customs such as exchanging New Year's greetings, giving and receiving red envelopes, families gathering to watch TV in the living room, and even a vendor selling traditional dough figurines. The most exciting and significant inclusion, however, is undoubtedly the God of Wealth LEGO minifigure! Since LEGO began producing Lunar New Year sets for the Greater China region, we've seen numerous minifigures in traditional red robes, along with printed tiles featuring red envelopes and festive dishes. But this year, the God of Wealth, complete with a bounty of gold ingots, is a truly delightful surprise! The modular design, allowing each scene to be displayed independently or combined, is also a fantastic feature.
LEGO 80109 Lunar New Year Ice Festival
Suggested Retail Price: RMB 999 | Piece Count: 1519 | Release Date: December 2021
Next, we have the "Lunar New Year Ice Festival" set, themed around a winter wonderland. This set evokes memories of last year's The Story of Nian, with its beautiful snow-covered scenery. The main attraction is a bustling ice skating rink, adorned with a rich assortment of LEGO minifigures, an equipment rental shop, a Year of the Tiger photo backdrop, intricate ice sculptures, and even a roasted sweet potato cart. In a nod to the upcoming 2022 Year of the Tiger, the set also includes an incredibly cute, festive tiger minifigure! Furthermore, the penguin-shaped sleds for children are a charming addition.
