Hong Kong-based toy brand threezero recently announced the latest addition to their 1/6 scale articulated figure line, "FigZero," with the reveal of the "FigZero 12-inch Ultraman" from the movie "Shin Ultraman," slated for release between July and September 2022.
Directed by Shinji Higuchi of "Shin Godzilla" fame, "Shin Ultraman" features Hideaki Anno involved in planning and scriptwriting, and stars renowned Japanese actors such as Takumi Saitoh, Masami Nagasawa, and Hidetoshi Nishijima. Much like "Shin Godzilla (シン・ゴジラ)," the title incorporates "シン (SHIN)," signaling a reimagining of the work set against a contemporary societal backdrop. The film aims to recapture the initial shock and awe audiences felt when first encountering Ultraman on television, both by returning to the character's origins to recreate its charm and by immersing viewers in a world where Ultraman exists as never before seen.
The "FigZero 12-inch Ultraman" is crafted to reflect the film's back-to-basics design, embodying the aesthetic vision of the late original Ultraman designer, Tohl Narita. Elements typically seen on tokusatsu suits, such as the "Color Timer," "peep holes below the eyes for the actor," and "fin-like designs on the back from zippers," are intentionally absent. This faithfully recreates Ultraman's elongated limbs and elegant, streamlined silhouette.
In contrast to the 6-inch scale of previous FigZero S releases, the "FigZero Shin Ultraman" is produced in a larger 12-inch (approximately 31cm) scale. It utilizes a composite material construction of ABS, PVC, POM, and die-cast metal parts, boasting 35 points of articulation throughout its body. Die-cast parts are primarily used in the abdomen and legs, enhancing both the figure's weight and strength for superior balance while maintaining a high range of motion.
Accessories include four pairs of interchangeable hands, allowing for a wide array of poses to recreate scenes like flight, martial arts, and beam attacks. The head also features an internal LED light-up function, illuminating the eyes for an even greater sense of realism in darker displays!
