Japan's official Gunpla flagship store, GUNDAM BASE, recently announced the upcoming release of a new limited-edition product from "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing": the "MG 1/100 Wing Gundam Zero EW Ver.Ka [Clear Color]," slated for release on December 18, 2021.
The XXXG-00W0 Wing Gundam Zero EW is the successor mobile suit piloted by protagonist Heero Yuy, designed by mechanical designer Hajime Katoki for the OVA "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz." It holds a status equivalent to the Wing Gundam Zero from the TV anime series. The EW version features significant design and color scheme modifications compared to its TV counterpart, most notably the distinctive, organic-looking white wings on its back. These wings not only drastically enhance mobility but can also envelop the suit, forming an "atmospheric re-entry mode." Its primary weapon remains the iconic "Twin Buster Rifle," capable of destroying an entire space colony with a single maximum-output shot.
The "MG 1/100 Wing Gundam Zero EW Ver.Ka [Clear Color]" takes the standard kit and re-imagines its entire molding in a transparent color scheme. The main body and wings feature a translucent milky white, creating a unique luminous effect. This clear plastic also makes it easier for customizers to incorporate special modification techniques like internal lighting or glow-in-the-dark paints, offering a distinct aesthetic from regular Gunpla builds.
Mechanical designer Hajime Katoki supervised the overall design, ensuring the slender physique and gracefully flowing wings are faithfully reproduced with precise part separation and color molding. The joint designs have been thoroughly vetted and revised, incorporating armor interlocking mechanisms for more natural posing. Pull-out shoulder joints and dedicated pegs hidden within the forearm armor allow for the iconic "Twin Buster Rifle" firing pose. Furthermore, it features a newly designed "NEO BIRD Mode" transformation mechanism, capable of replicating both "atmospheric" and "space" configurations.
