BENELIC Co., Ltd., the company that operates the official Studio Ghibli specialty shop "Donguri Republic" in Japan, is set to release a new "Howl's Moving Castle" themed product: the "Calcifer's Flickering Candle Light" Night Light! Priced at 4,400 JPY (tax included), it will be available starting December 11, 2021, at Donguri Republic's online store, donguri-sora, in Japan.
Hayao Miyazaki's film "Howl's Moving Castle" is based on British fantasy author Diana Wynne Jones's 1986 novel "Howl's Moving Castle." Since its release on November 20, 2004, over 15 years have passed, yet its characters remain incredibly popular. The titular Moving Castle, which crawls on mechanical legs like a giant robot, along with protagonist Howl, heroine Sophie, Howl's apprentice Markl, and the castle's power source, Calcifer, are all beloved fan favorites.
The "Calcifer's Flickering Candle Light" Night Light is designed to resemble a candle holder. Calcifer, the fire demon bound by contract to Howl, is depicted with wide, round eyes, his tiny hands resting on realistically melting wax, creating an incredibly adorable look! Measuring approximately φ63 x H125mm, it features a metallic base for an added touch of quality. Calcifer's translucent flame houses an LED light effect; when lit, the "candle flame" flickers and changes between various blue hues when shaken, creating a lively and authentic recreation of the movie's scenes. Simply shaking it left or right will turn it on or off, and it automatically shuts off after 15 minutes.
