Good Smile Company, a Japanese manufacturer, is finally releasing "Nendoroid Shindo Hikaru" and "Nendoroid Fujiwara no Sai" from the classic anime "Hikaru no Go" as part of their popular Nendoroid series, which boasts over a thousand unique figures. These releases commemorate the anime's 20th anniversary! The figures were priced at 5,800 JPY and were scheduled for release in July 2022.
Fujiwara no Sai, a brilliant Go player, served as a Go instructor to emperors and nobles during the Heian period. Falsely accused by a rival, he was exiled and tragically drowned himself in despair. His intense passion for Go kept his soul bound to a Go board, wandering the human world for nearly a millennium, solely in pursuit of the "Divine Move." During the Edo period, he possessed the young Torajiro, guiding him to become the legendary Go master Honinbo Shusaku. Sai's spirit reawakened when protagonist Shindo Hikaru accidentally discovered the blood-stained Go board once used by Torajiro, leading Hikaru into the world of Go and finally fulfilling Sai's millennium-long wish.
The "Nendoroid Fujiwara no Sai" stands approximately 11.5 cm tall. Its adorable chibi design faithfully recreates his long purple hair, slender eyes, and pale purple lips. His tall black hat and white kariginu (traditional Japanese hunting robe) are meticulously detailed, maintaining an elegant aura even in chibi form. The figure includes three interchangeable face plates: a serious standard face for intense Go matches, a teary-eyed crying face, and an exasperated angry face. He also comes with both a closed and open fan for guiding Go plays, along with a variety of hand parts to recreate his iconic poses and expressions from the series.
