The official Gunpla flagship store for Japan's "Mobile Suit Gundam" franchise, GUNDAM BASE, has announced the release of an event-exclusive item, the "HG 1/144 Gundam Unit 4 [Clear Color]," which will be available for purchase in stores starting January 15, 2022.
The RX-78-4 Gundam Unit 4, which first appeared in the PS2 game "Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: Space, To the End of a Flash...", received additional mechanical settings and a redesigned exterior by mechanical designer Hajime Katoki. Originally a crucial experimental unit during the development of the GM, this mobile suit was later modified alongside Gundam Unit 5 to become an anti-ship MS equipped with the massive "Mega Beam Launcher." In its later stages, it could also be enhanced into its [Bst] form by adding high-mobility components.
The "HG 1/144 Gundam Unit 4 [Clear Color]" is based on the previously released standard kit. This version features clear molded parts for the white, yellow, and blue sections, giving it a unique translucent sheen. This clear plastic also makes it easier for customizers to implement special modification techniques like lighting or glow-in-the-dark paints, offering a distinct style compared to regular Gunpla kits.
The kit accurately recreates the game's design by Hajime Katoki, and includes its powerful main armament, the "Mega Beam Launcher," along with an "Energy Supply Backpack." The backpack's cable is made with a flexible metal wire, ensuring articulation isn't hindered when posing dynamic battle stances. Additionally, interchangeable shoulder parts are included to recreate its high-mobility [Bst] form!
