Japan's official "Mobile Suit Gundam" Gunpla flagship store, GUNDAM BASE, announced that the event-exclusive "HG 1/144 Gundam Unit 5 [Clear Color]" will be available for purchase at its stores starting January 15, 2022.
The RX-78-5 Gundam Unit 5, which appeared in the PS2 game "Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: Space, To the End of a Flash...", received additional mechanical details and a redesigned exterior by mechanical designer Hajime Katoki. Originally an important experimental unit during the development of the GM, this mobile suit was later modified alongside Gundam Unit 4 to become an MS equipped with the massive "Giant Gatling Gun" to escort Unit 4. In its later stages, it could also be enhanced with a High Mobility Unit, transforming into its [Bst] form.
The "HG 1/144 Gundam Unit 5 [Clear Color]" is based on the previously released standard kit. This version features transparent molding for parts like the white, yellow, and red armor, creating a unique glossy finish. This clear plastic also makes it easier for customizers to incorporate lighting effects or glow-in-the-dark paints, offering a distinct style compared to regular Gunpla.
The kit faithfully reproduces the design by Hajime Katoki from the game. In addition to its standard Hyper Beam Rifle and Shield, it includes the imposing main weapon, the "Giant Gatling Gun," and a "Large Magazine Drum." The ammunition belt is made from a flexible, soft material, ensuring articulation isn't hindered when posing dynamic combat stances. Furthermore, interchangeable shoulder parts are included to recreate its High Mobility [Bst] form!
