Bandai's GASHAPON brand is expanding its premium "Ultimate Creatures Encyclopedia" (生物大図鑑Ultimate) series. Following the first release, the "Nile Crocodile," the new "Red-Eyed & Black-Eyed Crocodile Skink" capsule toy is set to launch in May 2022. It will feature four variations, with each pull priced at 1,500 JPY. This release will be exclusively available via PREMIUM BANDAI's "GASHAPON ONLINE" service.
The "Ultimate Creatures Encyclopedia" (いきもの大図鑑アドバンス) series boasts top-tier size, sculpting, and articulation, offering even more realistic details and exquisite paintwork compared to the standard "Creatures Encyclopedia" line. This "Ultimate Creatures Encyclopedia Red-Eyed & Black-Eyed Crocodile Skink" collection includes four distinct types: a black Red-Eyed Crocodile Skink, a dark brown Red-Eyed Crocodile Skink (post-shedding), a dark brown Black-Eyed Crocodile Skink, and a light brown Black-Eyed Crocodile Skink.
Japanese biological sculptor Moria (@守亜もりあ) was tapped to create the prototypes, faithfully reproducing the popular pet reptiles, the Red-Eyed and Black-Eyed Crocodile Skinks, at a realistic length of approximately 18 cm. Akashi Tominaga, editor-in-chief of the reptile specialty magazine "Vivalium Guide," supervised the coloring, ensuring accurate replication of biological features such as the orange-red eye rings, dorsal spines, and scales. Prototyper Mitsuhiko Hosokawa handled the articulation, incorporating 27 points of movement to dynamically capture details like their intimidating open-mouth posture and tail swings!
