TakaraTomy Masterpiece MP-54 Reboost Review: The Real Stars are the Diaclone Colors and the Honda Motocompo

Reboost (リブースト Ribūsuto) is a Guardian assigned to Autobot City, known for being talkative and having numerous hobbies. The only one who seems to dislike him is Tailgate...

Reboost can separate his consciousness into his Component X, allowing it to move about independently. His most remarkable ability is the Boost Key, which allows him to enhance the life force of any organic or metallic object, granting them strengthened or even regenerative properties. However, Reboost's one major drawback is his lack of medical knowledge... he can't guarantee that he'll restore what truly needs fixing, and he might even inadvertently limit an object's potential.

The Honda City is a subcompact car produced by the Japanese manufacturer Honda since 1981. The City was originally a small hatchback developed for the Japanese, Australian, and European markets. The nameplate was retired after the second generation ceased production in 1994, with its successor being renamed the Fit/Jazz.

In 1996, the City name was revived for an entry-level four-door sedan developed for emerging markets, first sold in Asia (Southeast and South Asia) before expanding to Latin America and Australia. The third-generation City used the chassis of the fourth-generation Civic, earning it the nickname "the budget Civic" and achieving sales success that sometimes even impacted Civic sales. Starting with the fourth generation, the City was developed on Honda's global small car platform as a derivative of the Honda Fit, and was sold in the Japanese market from 2002 to 2008 as the "Honda Fit Aria." The sixth generation was reintroduced to Japan in 2014 as the "Honda Grace," with a hybrid model available.

The first Honda City was launched in November 1981 with an innovative "Tallboy" design. Its unusual height allowed four adults to sit comfortably within its very short (3,400mm) frame. At the time of its design, it was Honda's smallest car, though it did not conform to Japan's Kei car regulations. It was 383mm longer than the Honda N360 but 171mm shorter than the first-generation Civic. A Turbo version of the first-gen model was introduced in September 1982, equipped with a 1231cc mechanically fuel-injected engine that boosted its power to 100 horsepower, primarily for the European market.

Reboost was designed to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Honda City, sporting its iconic red color scheme—a version of the car that is arguably more famous in Japan than Skids. Accessories include a laser gun, a rocket pod, a double-barreled laser attachment, Component X, and a holographic avatar figure.

MP-54 Reboost is a Diaclone-colored redeco of MP-53 Skids. The figure features a striking red and black color scheme, with blue feet in robot mode. In place of Skids' liquid nitrogen rifle and twin electron blaster, Reboost comes with smaller, silver-colored weaponry. The vehicle mode is packed with detail, including an opening hood, functional doors, and a spacious rear hatch. Of course, the biggest selling point is the inclusion of the Honda City Turbo's famous companion: the Honda Motocompo folding scooter, complete with a transparent driver figure. This allows for fantastic display options, showing the figure driving the car or riding the scooter.

The sculpt is excellent in both robot and vehicle modes. The articulation in robot mode is also up to the high standards expected from the Masterpiece line! While some hollow parts are present for cost-saving reasons, they aren't overly distracting or egregious. As a collectible, its playability is fantastic, and it comes highly recommended!
