The highly anticipated Nintendo Direct 2022 unveiled a host of exciting titles, with SQUARE ENIX notably announcing multiple classic game remakes. Among them, the iconic Super Famicom-era SRPG, "Front Mission," is set to make its return as a Remake, slated for a Summer 2022 release!

"Front Mission" originally launched on the Super Famicom on February 24, 1995, as a tactical RPG. It was later ported to consoles like the original PlayStation and Nintendo DS, where it received additional story content and was rebranded as "Front Mission 1st" to differentiate it.
Players command bipedal mechanical combat vehicles known as "Wanzers" (ヴァンツァー), engaging in battles against enemy mechs. The game allows extensive customization of these Wanzers, including parts and cosmetic paint jobs. Combat mechanics are similar to other tactical RPGs like "Tactics Ogre" and "Fire Emblem." The story unfolds on the fictional Huffman Island in the future, beginning with protagonists Lloyd and his lover Karen caught in a conspiratorial attack.

This "Front Mission 1st Remake" is slated for a Summer 2022 release and features significant graphical upgrades compared to its Super Famicom predecessor. The battlefield maps have been completely revamped with a more three-dimensional presentation, and all Wanzer movements and animations have been re-done, making it feel like an entirely new game. Whether the story content will be expanded beyond the original version is currently unknown. Additionally, a remake of "Front Mission 2" is also in development, though its release date has yet to be announced.
