Much to the anticipation of PlayStation fans, "Horizon Forbidden West," the highly anticipated sequel developed by Guerrilla Games, a studio under Sony, was finally released on PS4 and PS5 on February 18th of this year. Yesterday, LEGO announced a new set based on the video game: "76989 Tallneck"! It is scheduled for release on May 1, 2022.
Released in 2017, the video game "Horizon Zero Dawn" is set in the 31st century, where humans live in tribal, semi-primitive societies, but the surface is teeming with complex, futuristic mechanical creatures. Players take on the role of the protagonist, the huntress Aloy, to explore this conflicting yet fascinating world. In the game's lore, a phenomenon known as the "Derangement" caused previously mostly non-aggressive machines to go rogue. However, the Tallneck, now immortalized in LEGO form, is one of the non-hostile machines and arguably one of the most iconic in the game. Players can climb to its head to "override" it, gaining valuable intel on the surrounding area.
This set comprises 1,222 pieces. Once assembled, the Tallneck stands an impressive 34 cm (13.5 inches) tall. LEGO meticulously captures the Tallneck's distinctive silhouette using white, gray, black, and sand-colored elements, while gold elements represent its intricate back structure. Its signature disc-shaped head is faithfully recreated. Additionally, the set includes a beautifully printed Aloy minifigure and a brick-built Watcher (with interchangeable red, blue, and yellow eye pieces). A display base depicting the game's environment further immerses builders in the world of Horizon.
