Bandai Spirits Hobby Division has today announced the first model kit product from its Gundam-themed project, "Gunpla-kun." This kit, the 1/1 Gunpla-kun [Painting Model], will be released as a bonus item with the September issue of "smart" magazine, hitting shelves on July 25.
The protagonists of "Gunpla-kun" are Gunpla models produced at Bandai's Shizuoka factory. One morning, a mysterious light emanated from the production line, giving birth to unknown Gunpla runners. These include Mobile Suits from the "Mobile Suit Gundam" series, such as the iconic RX-78-2 Gundam and MS-06 Zaku II. They feature a unique two-head-tall, cartoonish style, and through their adorable designs and stories, they convey the joy of building Gunpla models.
This beloved design is finally being realized as a model kit. The 1/1 Gunpla-kun [Painting Model] is made from a new eco-friendly material called "LIMEX," which primarily uses limestone. This material significantly reduces CO2 emissions compared to petroleum-derived plastics. Its pristine white molding also allows builders to freely paint it. However, Bandai also hinted at potential future sales under new specifications, suggesting the possibility of multi-color molded versions appearing down the line.
