Max Factory, the renowned Japanese toy manufacturer, has previously released numerous model kits based on the mecha from the classic 80s robot anime series, "Fang of the Sun Dougram". Now, the company is set to launch a brand-new Dougram plastic model kit in December 2022, inspired by the manga series "Get truth Fang of the Sun Dougram"!
"Fang of the Sun Dougram" (太陽の牙ダグラム) is a 75-episode robot anime produced by SUNRISE and directed by Ryosuke Takahashi, which first aired on TV Tokyo in 1981. A standout feature of the series is its nuanced storytelling, which eschews a simple good-versus-evil narrative. Instead, it portrays various factions driven by differing stances and beliefs, without clear heroes or villains. The mecha designs were handled by the legendary Kunio Okawara. Historically, the series holds the second-highest viewership ratings among robot anime.
This Dougram GT version draws its design from the manga series "Get truth Fang of the Sun Dougram", a project commemorating the original anime's 40th anniversary. The manga is penned by renowned artist Yasuo Otagaki, known for works like "Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt," and supervised by Ryosuke Takahashi. Compared to the original anime's design, this Dougram features a distinctly different aesthetic, with a leaner, less rounded silhouette. It boasts intricate panel lines and enhanced detailing across various sections. This release also includes new parts not found in the special edition released in December 2021, such as a turbo backpack, a long cannon, a long gun, and missile pods, allowing collectors to recreate its appearance from the manga's first chapter.
