Japanese capsule toy manufacturer "State of the Art" (SO-TA Co., Ltd.) is releasing capsule toys based on the original designs of the late master sculptor Hiroyuki Sagae! The first wave, "Gotouchi Kaiju Rittai Zukan Sono 1" capsule toys, features 4 different designs, priced at 500 JPY per play, and is slated for release in August 2022. A blind box version will also be available simultaneously.
The late sculptor Hiroyuki Sagae was renowned for his monster designs in tokusatsu films such as "Godzilla vs. Destoroyah," "Mothra," and the "Heisei Gamera" series, as well as the movie "Sakuya: Slayer of Demons." He also created numerous model kits and prototypes. This "Gotouchi Kaiju" (Local Kaiju) series is set in the near future of 20XX, where Sagae-sensei ingeniously combined traditional Japanese culture, local specialties, and monster themes to create a diverse range of Japanese kaiju, each with distinct characteristics and regional charm.
The high-quality "Gotouchi Kaiju Rittai Zukan Sono 1" capsule toys bring to life the monster prototypes designed by the late master Hiroyuki Sagae through 3D modeling, resulting in palm-sized collectibles with intricate sculpting and detailed paintwork. The first wave features the two-headed kaiju "Shachihokong," unearthed from the Nagoya Sannomaru ruins in Aichi Prefecture, and "U-Don," a kaiju from Kagawa Prefecture whose special move is its super bouncy, chewy power. Both kaiju are available in their original color and a special (gold) color variation. Additionally, the blind box version includes a special (silver) color, and purchasing a full box (4 pieces) comes with an A5-sized mini poster. This is a must-have for fans of Hiroyuki Sagae's work!
