Bandai Spirits' Tamashii Nations has officially announced the latest release in its acclaimed Robot Spirits ver. A.N.I.M.E. figure line! Straight from the original "Mobile Suit Gundam" series comes the Zaku II & Zeon Forces Reconnaissance Aircraft Set, scheduled to hit shelves in November 2022.
This set is based on the legendary 15th episode of the original series, "Cucuruz Doan's Island." In the episode, protagonist Amuro Ray encounters Cucuruz Doan, a Zeon deserter living on a remote island. Haunted by the guilt of having accidentally killed a child's parents with a stray shot, Doan defied his orders to eliminate the surviving children and instead chose to protect them. He now lives a quiet life, defending the island from both Federation and Zeon forces with his unarmed Zaku, resorting to hand-to-hand combat and famously throwing rocks. While the episode is praised for its profound story, it's also notorious among fans for its significant animation errors, which resulted in some of the most bizarrely proportioned, off-model designs for the Zaku and Gundam ever seen on screen.
The Robot Spirits Zaku II & Zeon Forces Reconnaissance Aircraft Set ver. A.N.I.M.E. includes the Zaku II mobile suit, a "Luggun" reconnaissance aircraft, and a wide array of accessories. The Luggun is meticulously detailed, featuring a transparent cockpit canopy and landing gear. Its disc-shaped radar and twin wing-mounted machine guns are fully articulated. The set also includes clear attachment parts to recreate the scene where the Zaku carries the Luggun from below.
The Zaku II figure itself is the star of the show, featuring swappable parts to display it as either a standard, series-accurate Zaku II or as Doan's custom unit from the infamously off-model episode. Collectors can recreate its unique "horse-faced" head and distinctively slender calves. To complete the scene, the set includes two different-sized rock accessories that can be attached to a specialized hand part, allowing you to perfectly replicate Doan's signature rock-throwing attack!
