BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd.'s collector's toy division, TAMASHII NATIONS, has recently announced the latest product from the 'GUNDAM FIX FIGURATION METAL COMPOSITE' series, a finished alloy and ABS product line supervised by popular mechanical designer Katoki Hajime. The new item, "MS-06F Zaku II (Cucuruz Doan's Zaku) [Cucuruz Doan's Island]", from the theatrical anime film "Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island", is scheduled for release in November 2022.
More than 40 years ago, the 15th episode of the "Mobile Suit Gundam" TV series, "Cucuruz Doan's Island", not only featured an excellent script worthy of being adapted into a standalone film, but it was also the most famous "animation breakdown" episode of the entire series, with the Gundam and Zaku appearing in distorted and deformed alien-like poses. However, this time, the theatrical version rationalizes Doan's Zaku's 'broken horse face' and incorrectly painted power pipes as conditions resulting from years of disrepair, successfully generating buzz.
The "G.F.F.M.C. MS-06F Zaku II (Cucuruz Doan's Zaku) [Cucuruz Doan's Island]" is based on the previously released Zaku II Type C, utilizing a large number of new parts to create battle damage details such as deformed and cracked head armor, paint chips, and peeling armor across the body. Even the body markings are rendered with a weathered, chipped paint texture, and the blackened star at the top of the "Southern Cross emblem" is faithfully reproduced.
The overall articulation design is essentially the same as the Type C, with high-durability, weighty alloy parts used for the elbow and knee joints. Numerous armor sliding mechanisms are designed throughout the body to allow for more natural and flexible movements, recreating the cool battle scenes from the film where it wields a Heat Hawk. Additionally, there are multiple mechanisms such as deployable backpack thrusters and a mono-eye camera that can be replaced with three different sizes.
Although Doan's Zaku did not utilize a wide array of weapons in the film, G.F.F.M.C. still includes a rich assortment of weapon accessories used by the Type C, including a Zaku Machine Gun, two lengths of Heat Hawk, and various magazines. The Bazooka can also be chosen from four different stylistic specifications (Type A to D) according to preference, allowing for a wide range of battle scenes to be recreated.
