The 'ROBOT SPIRITS' series of robot-themed posable action figures, released by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collectors' toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., recently announced the latest product from 'Mobile Suit Gundam', the "Zaku II & Principality of Zeon Reconnaissance Aircraft Set ver. A.N.I.M.E.", scheduled for release in November.
The animated film 'Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island', released this month in Japan, is an adaptation of Episode 15 of 'Mobile Suit Gundam', which aired over 40 years ago. It has been reimagined with new mechanical designs and storylines, and has been widely discussed since its announcement. However, this ROBOT SPIRITS ver. A.N.I.M.E. is not releasing the new design, but rather the classic, 'animation breakdown' version!
The "ROBOT SPIRITS Zaku II & Principality of Zeon Reconnaissance Aircraft Set ver. A.N.I.M.E." product includes one Zaku II main unit, the Principality of Zeon reconnaissance aircraft "LUGGUN", and various accessories. The Zaku II utilizes the previously released ver. A.N.I.M.E. version, with new parts to create a calf sculpt that is closer to the animation's depiction, lacking any detailed engravings. The head can also be replaced with two types: a normal Zaku II, and the 'animation breakdown' horse-faced Doan's Zaku II.
For weaponry, in addition to the Zaku Machine Gun, Doan's Zaku's signature special weapon, the "Giant Rock", has also been created. The accessories include two different sized rocks, and combined with the new dedicated hand parts, you can recreate the iconic scene of him grabbing the giant rock with both hands, preparing to throw it at the island invaders!
The Principality of Zeon reconnaissance aircraft "LUGGUN" also largely recreates its anime design, reproducing rich details such as the transparent cockpit canopy and landing gear. Both the disc radar and the wing-mounted cannons are articulated, and transparent attachment parts can be used to recreate the scene of the Zaku suspended underneath.
