BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division in Japan recently announced the first Gunpla product made with "egg shell bioplastic" material, the "ENTRY GRADE 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam [Classic Color]". It will be exclusively sold at all venues of the "GUNDAM NEXT FUTURE -THE GUNDAM BASE POP-UP TOUR -" exhibition, which will tour various locations across Japan during the event period, as well as at select "BASE SERIES" venues.
The "ENTRY GRADE 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam" kit is suitable for children aged 8 and above. The runner layout is intuitive, with parts arranged sequentially from head to foot. Furthermore, the gate design allows parts to be easily snapped off by hand without the need for nippers, making assembly simpler and safer. Although the kit has a low part count, it features 5 molded colors, excellent part separation, and joint design, allowing for easy assembly and faithful reproduction of the RX-78-2 Gundam's colors without painting. The articulation of the waist and legs is also outstanding.
What makes this product even more special is its use of the relatively eco-friendly "egg shell bioplastic" material, replacing traditional petroleum-based plastics. By mixing discarded industrial waste "egg shells" with polystyrene resin, the proportion of petroleum-based plastic in the product is reduced, thereby lowering the environmental impact of the model kit. The yellowish-brown and dark gray colors of the parts are also the original hues of these recycled materials, which together form a warm, classic-style color scheme.
