The world-renowned LEGO Group unveiled many exciting new products at last weekend's "LEGO CON 2022" event. This article will feature the ICONS series' "10497 Galaxy Explorer"! It is scheduled for release on August 1, 2022.
When it comes to LEGO's most popular series, the Space System, released in 1978 and 1979, is definitely among the top contenders! This new namesake, "10497 Galaxy Explorer," inspired by and redesigned from the classic set "497 Galaxy Explorer," contains 1254 pieces. Once assembled, it measures approximately 52 cm long and 32 cm wide. While retaining the original spaceship's color scheme and triangular wing design, it incorporates a new, more modern building style, including a more refined studded appearance, more complex jet engines, and an easier-to-operate hinged cockpit canopy.
▼ The "497 Galaxy Explorer," released in 1979, had 338 pieces; this new LEGO model completely retains the hull number LL928 – absolutely fantastic!
This spaceship, which can be stably displayed using three retractable landing gears, allows you to lift the cockpit canopy to admire the interior seating area and resting space. The rear of the spaceship is a storage area for the rover; a small and adorable surface exploration vehicle can be deployed using the side-opening rear door and retractable ramp. The set includes four retro-futuristic astronaut minifigures with classic smiling face prints, and it also comes with a brick-built robot assistant. This is definitely a must-have remake set for LEGO Space fans.
