From Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company HOBBY Division, the 'HG (High Grade)' series of 1/144 scale Gunpla, known for its diverse range of mobile suits, has announced the latest product from "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury", the "HG 1/144 Michaelis", scheduled for release on January 14, 2023.
The CFK-029 Michaelis is a new GUND Anti-unit equipped mobile suit developed by Grassley Defense Systems, one of the Benerit Group's three major corporations, and piloted by the CEO's adopted son, Shaddiq Zenelli. Its right arm abandons the movable arm design in favor of a tactical composite armament, the "BEAM BRACER". This equipment possesses multiple offensive functions, capable of firing beam cannons and deploying beam sabers. Its base is connected by a cable and houses thrusters, allowing it to be launched as a beam claw. The machine's most distinctive feature, the GUND-Format jamming wave, can also be emitted from the Beam Bracer.
The "HG 1/144 Michaelis" recreates its anime appearance with multi-color molded parts and excellent part separation technology. The purple glowing areas on the head, shoulders, and thighs are composed of stickers combined with clear overlay parts, and it features flexible movable joint designs. Accessories include clear green molded beam saber effects, which can be equipped on the right arm's Beam Bracer and the left arm's detachable small shield. It also reproduces the movable mechanism of the Beam Bracer's front claw, as well as its deployment mechanism for beam cannon firing and GUND-Format jamming activation.
The latest released prototype sample shows the entire kit composed of dark purple, white, clear, and purplish-gray molded colors, largely reproducing the design without painting. However, the green glowing parts inside the Beam Bracer when emitting GUND-Format jamming waves are not separately molded and require stickers for color correction or self-painting. Additionally, the accessories include a shape-adjustable metal wire of ample length, allowing for the recreation of dynamic scenes like the Beam Bracer being launched, similar to the box art.
