Japanese toy company TAKARA TOMY has officially announced the first product in its high-end ZOIDS model series, which brings together the culmination of technology, "ZOIDS AZ-01 Blade Liger," as part of the "ZOIDS 40TH ANNIVERSARY PROJECT" for the popular "ZOIDS" toy series. It is scheduled for release in April 2023.
The Blade Liger is the successor to the Shield Liger. While various settings exist across different media such as toys, anime, and manga – including being developed by the Republic or a direct evolution of the Shield Liger – its characteristic blue armor and weapon configurations are largely consistent. It is most famously known as the protagonist Zoid in "Zoids: Chaotic Century." This machine is equipped with the special "Organoid System," restored from ancient ruins, which significantly enhances its mobility. It can employ high-speed assault tactics using the main weapon "Laser Blades" on both sides of its waist, slicing enemies in two. The energy shield generator in its mane also boasts higher defensive performance compared to the Shield Liger.
The "ZOIDS AZ-01 Blade Liger" is a 1/72 scale assembly model kit featuring an internal motor power unit. Utilizing TAKARA TOMY's latest technology, it offers precise part separation, and with some pre-painted parts, it can further recreate its appearance from the anime. Its characteristic rocket boosters, energy shield generator, Laser Blades, and Pulse Laser Guns all feature deployment mechanisms. Driven by the motor, it can walk freely as if alive, and the interlocking mechanisms between the frame and various armor parts allow for more natural posing. Furthermore, LED lights are embedded in the eyes and Zoid Core to emit light!
As for accessories, it includes a dedicated display stand, pilot figures of "Van" and "Fiona" that can be placed in the cockpit, and in homage to the old kit, a Republic-spec energy shield generator is included for replacement!
