Japanese toy company MEGAHOUSE (株式会社メガハウス) will launch a new gashapon series this March to commemorate Othello's 50th anniversary: "Mini Othello Collection" (ミニチュアオセロコレクション)! Not only will you rack your brains during the game, but literally every "move" will require extreme caution.
Othello, widely popular in Japan, is also known as "Reversi" due to its gameplay. Another name, "Othello" (オセロ), is derived from Shakespeare's famous play. It is a two-player game played on a 64-square board. The objective is to flip your opponent's pieces to your color, and the player with more pieces of their color at the end of the game wins. The essence of Othello lies in how a single piece can turn the tide of the entire game in the later stages.
The "Mini Othello Collection" gashapon series features 1/8 scale miniature versions. The 5 cm gashapon board occupies roughly just one of the 64 squares of a standard Othello board, so you might want to improve your finger dexterity before playing! There are four types in total: "Official Othello," "Magnetic Othello," "4-Player Othello," and "3D Othello." Each comes with a board, 66 pieces, a piece storage case, a 3D board, and other components. It's worth noting that the Magnetic Othello version does not actually include magnets, and the 3D Othello requires 88 pieces to play, meaning you'll need extra pieces.
