Released by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collectors' division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company, the "S.H.MonsterArts" series, which combines exquisite monster sculpting with outstanding articulation technology, today announced the latest product from the anime "GAMERA -Rebirth-", "Gamera (2023)", scheduled for release in August 2023.
A popular kaiju in Japanese tokusatsu history, often compared to Godzilla, Gamera has been dormant for 17 years since its last film, "Gamera the Brave". Now, in the Reiwa era, it finally makes its official revival with the 6-episode Netflix anime series "GAMERA -Rebirth-"! This work is a brand new story, independent of previous films, telling of four elementary school boys in 1989 who witness the kaiju Gyaos attacking their hometown of Tokyo. In their moment of crisis, Gamera suddenly appears and engages in a fierce battle with a large swarm of Gyaos, while four other kaiju are also stirring....
The "S.H.MonsterArts Gamera (2023)" is produced based on the 3D model used in the anime, featuring an articulated specification with a total height of approximately 15 cm. Under the thorough supervision of sculpting director Mitsunori Seikai, it faithfully recreates the anime's appearance, depicting a powerfully sized shell, a fiercely menacing head, and the distinctive glowing patterns on its abdomen are also reproduced through paint application.
The overall articulation is designed by reverse-engineering the skeletal settings from the anime, reproducing this version's characteristic forward-leaning posture and agile forelimbs. Precise part segmentation is present throughout the body, with numerous joint parts designed to achieve a high range of motion without compromising the integrity of the sculpt. Articulated joints are included in the four limbs, tail, neck, and lower jaw, allowing for dynamic battle poses.
Accessories include dedicated front and rear limbs for the flying form, along with a special display stand featuring effect parts. By swapping out parts, the powerful flying form can be recreated!
