Japan's official Mobile Suit Gundam Gunpla flagship store, GUNDAM BASE, today announced that its latest store-exclusive product, "MG 1/100 Dom [Clear Color]," is scheduled to go on sale starting May 3, 2023.
Originating from the first Mobile Suit Gundam series, the MS-09 Dom is a ground combat mobile suit developed by the Zeon Army during the One Year War to address the insufficient mobility of units like the Zaku and Gouf in Earth's gravity. Although the Dom appears heavily armored and cumbersome, it actually utilizes thermo-nuclear jet engines in its waist and legs to achieve hovering capabilities, allowing it to glide at high speeds over various complex terrains, reaching up to 381 kilometers per hour. It is also equipped with a Giant Bazooka, Heat Saber, and Spread Beam Cannon, enabling it to demonstrate excellent combat capabilities in close-range engagements.
The "MG 1/100 Dom [Clear Color]" kit is based on the Ver. 1.5 released in 2022, featuring new parts for the waist and wrist outer armor to create a more natural sculpt and improve upon the previous shortcomings of visible part seams and gate marks. The inner frame joints have also been significantly revamped, incorporating newly designed pull-out shoulder joints and elbow joints with a wider range of motion. The hip joint, which previously featured a fragile integrated ball joint, has been replaced with a sliding cylindrical structure, and a new movable axis has been added to the thigh connection point. The side skirts and ankle frame have also been renewed, further expanding the range of articulation.
What sets this kit apart is that all red, purple, and black parts have been replaced with clear molding colors, while the inner frame and weapons, originally dark gray, are now in metallic molding colors. This combination not only allows the intricate internal frame structure to be seen through, but also presents a unique, highly translucent color. It also makes special customization techniques, such as adding lighting or glow-in-the-dark paint, more convenient, allowing for a style distinct from regular Gunpla.
