Japanese model maker Kaiyodo (KAIYODO) has launched a new series of large art statues themed around Earth's creatures, 'NATURE TALES'. Following the first installment, Orca and Sea Lion, today they announced the second product, "Right Whale Parent and Child," scheduled for release in November 2023. This item is limited to 300 units and will only be sold at Kaiyodo's official online store and Kaiyodo Hobby Lobby Tokyo/Kadoma stores.
The brand-new series 'Nature Tales' is developed by a team led by Kaiyodo's foremost biological sculptor, Shinobu Matsumura. Based on Matsumura Shinobu's past sculpted works, these pieces are newly created using digital sculpting methods, incorporating various creatures from Earth as their creative theme. They sculpt the elegant postures of these creatures with delicate and vivid modeling power. The base is a round pedestal carved from solid wood with a golden nameplate. Each product also includes cotton gloves to prevent fingerprints, the artist's signature, and a certificate printed with a serial number, showcasing immense collectible and educational value.
The second installment sculpts the Right Whale Parent and Child, standing at a height of 45 cm. These whales are endangered due to whaling and are known as "the gentlest animals on Earth." The piece depicts a heartwarming scene of the adult whale accompanying its calf, which is not yet proficient in swimming, as they dive, with a curious bottlenose dolphin swimming alongside. The delicate and meticulously researched sculpting and color application thoroughly reproduce the elegant dorsal curve without a fin, the white patches on the belly, and the characteristic hard yellowish-gray callosities on the head. Additionally, the bright, glossy eye colors imbue the work with vitality.
