Released by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., the 『METAL ROBOT SPIRITS』 series, which combines metallic texture painting and an alloy frame, today officially announced the latest product commemorating the 20th anniversary of the broadcast of 《Mobile Suit Gundam SEED》, the 「Strike Freedom Gundam 20th Anniversary Ver.」, scheduled for release in November 2023.
The ZGMF-X20A Strike Freedom Gundam is the mobile suit piloted by protagonist Kira Yamato in 《Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny》. Equipped with a Hyper Deuterion Engine capable of generating massive amounts of energy, it can thus be armed with a large array of high-firepower beam weapons such as high-energy beam rifles, the "Xiphias 3" railguns, and the "Calius" multi-phase beam cannon. It even features the "Super DRAGOON" Mobile Weapon Wing on its back, equipped with a propulsion system developed from the "Voiture Lumiere" propulsion system, with 8 "Beam Assault Cannons" on each side that can deploy for all-range attacks. Combined with Kira Yamato's Super Coordinator abilities, it can simultaneously hit a large number of enemy units.
The 「METAL ROBOT SPIRITS Strike Freedom Gundam 20th Anniversary Ver.」 is a modified version based on the regular release from 2018. It retains the exterior design by sculptor Sakano Ryu and the main posable alloy frame, but features a refreshed overall color scheme. Most notably, the entire white armor has been changed to a bluish-gray, giving it a visually heavier and more substantial feel. Furthermore, the body markings feature a new design, with golden patterns and text used on the shoulders, skirt armor, mobile weapon wings, and other areas, exuding an even more luxurious feel.
Its armaments include high-energy beam rifles that can reproduce their separated and combined forms, the Xiphias 3 railguns with barrel deployment mechanisms, two beam sabers, and beam shield effects that deploy from both arms. The 8 beam assault cannons mounted on its back can also all be detached, allowing for the recreation of the "Full Burst Mode" with all weapons firing simultaneously, using the dedicated display stand!
Furthermore, the black display stand also differs from previous versions, adopting the new design used in recent METAL ROBOT SPIRITS series products. Compared to the old version, it allows for free height adjustment and boasts greater stability. The golden pattern printed on top also features a new design with the Strike Freedom Gundam's head, commemorating the 20th anniversary of 《Mobile Suit Gundam SEED》.
