BANDAI SPIRITS' collector's toy division, TAMASHII NATIONS, recently announced the confirmed commercialization of a new product from "Macross Plus," the "YF-21 Sturmvogel," for its transforming alloy toy "DX Chogokin" series. The release date is yet to be determined.

The YF-21 Sturmvogel, along with the YF-19 Excalibur, is a product of the "AVF (Advanced Variable Fighter)" development project. This aircraft, developed by General Galaxy, is equipped with ambitious new technologies such as a new powerful engine and innovative shape-shifting composite materials. The most striking among these is the "BDI System," a technology that allows the pilot's brain to directly connect with the aircraft, controlling its various functions via brainwaves, and even receiving projections of all surrounding views without opening their eyes. However, if the pilot's mental state becomes unstable, control may become abnormal. Furthermore, due to excessively high manufacturing costs, difficult maintenance, and insufficient reliability of new technologies, the YF-21 lost to the YF-19 developed by Shinsei Industry in the competition for the main mass-production fighter.

The "DX Chogokin YF-21 Sturmvogel" has been highly anticipated since its prototype was first exhibited in 2019. After many years, its commercialization has finally been announced. This product continues the series' tradition with a precise three-stage transformation mechanism, faithfully reproducing its unique azure fuselage, its heavier exterior armor compared to typical variable fighters, and its menacing red cyclops head.
