Japanese model maker Sentinel, after last year's exclusive release of the Kojima Productions mascot character "Ludens Gold Ver. Sen-ti-nel Limited 1/6 Scale Figure" on their official online store, has once again announced the release of a version for third-party retailers, the "Ludens Gold Ver. 1/6 Scale Action Figure," slated for September 2023.
Ludens is the mascot character for Kojima Productions, the development studio led by game producer Hideo Kojima. His name is derived from the book "Homo Ludens" written in 1938 by Dutch scholar Johan Huizinga. With a mysterious and cool skull image, he wears a spacesuit capable of continuous exploration in any environment, symbolizing Kojima Productions' spirit of bringing new gaming experiences to players through cutting-edge development equipment, technology, and a pioneering vision for the future.
The "Ludens Gold Ver. 1/6 Scale Action Figure" is a modified version based on the general color scheme released in 2018. Art director Yoji Shinkawa, a long-time collaborator with Hideo Kojima, re-selected the color palette, applying a stylish matte black combined with semi-gloss gold finish to the entire spacesuit. The backpack features a matte champagne gold as its primary color, and with its abundant detailed sculpting, it boasts an even more futuristic feel than the original version.
Standing at an impressive height of approximately 31 cm, the figure's powerful physique utilizes composite materials such as ABS, PVC, and fabric to faithfully recreate the costume's design. Internally, it features a dedicated articulated frame with as many as 46 points of articulation. The head incorporates a blue LED light-up device and movable eyeball design, allowing for various scene recreations with accessories like the flag pole spear and the Kojima Productions flag. However, the "Sentinel Flag" included with the Sentinel limited edition is not part of this general retail version.
