GOOD SMILE COMPANY of Japan has announced the latest addition to their popular "Nendoroid" series, which boasts over a thousand different products. This new articulated figure, "Nendoroid Suzume Iwato," is from the popular animated film Suzume no Tojimari. It is priced at 7,000 JPY and is scheduled for release in February 2024.
The Japanese animated film Suzume no Tojimari, written and directed by Makoto Shinkai, is the third film to tackle disaster themes after Your Name. and Weathering With You, collectively known as the "Makoto Shinkai Disaster Trilogy." The story draws inspiration from the phenomenon of once-bustling cities becoming deserted and silent due to COVID-19, combined with the events of the Great East Japan Earthquake, to create "Disaster Doors" from which giant earthworms emerge, triggering massive earthquakes. The protagonist, Suzume Iwato, accidentally intervenes in the mission of the "Closer," Sōta Munakata, thus beginning their strange yet healing adventure.
The "Nendoroid Suzume Iwato" faithfully recreates Suzume's youthful appearance in her school uniform with a cute Q-version proportion. Her distinctive ahoge (cowlick) and hair accessories are also charmingly reproduced. It comes with two interchangeable face plates: her signature smiling face and a serious face for when she assists Sōta. These can be combined with accessories like the important character "Suzume's Chair" and her smartphone, as well as various interchangeable hand parts for holding a key, and an interchangeable flowing ponytail hair part, allowing fans to recreate memorable scenes from the film!
