Japan's official Gunpla flagship store, GUNDAM BASE, announced that the latest limited-edition product from "Mobile Suit Z Gundam," the "MG 1/100 Zaku Cannon (Z Gundam Ver.)," will be available for purchase at stores starting November 25, 2023.
During the One Year War, when the Principality of Zeon forces executed their Earth Drop Operation, they modified the Zaku II J-type to acquire high-mobility anti-air capabilities. However, development was hindered by weight balance issues with the anti-aircraft artillery. The plan was then revised to a ground-based, mid-range specification equipped with a 180mm cannon, thus giving birth to the MS-06K Zaku Cannon. This mobile suit was an additional setting introduced in the MSV (Mobile Suit Variation) project after the broadcast of "Mobile Suit Gundam," and it officially appeared in the anime only in the sequel, "Mobile Suit Z Gundam." By then, the Zaku Cannon had been acquired by the Earth Federation Forces and modified for space use, not only replacing its thruster backpack and beam cannon but also repainting its exterior in a blue-purple color scheme.
The "MG 1/100 Zaku Cannon (Z Gundam Ver.)" is a modification of the general release MG kit from 2008, utilizing the same frame parts as the "MG 1/100 Zaku II Ver.2.0," offering stable and excellent articulation. The exterior armor's molded colors have been changed to a dark blue and light purple scheme to reproduce the "Z Gundam" version's setting. It comes with a 180mm cannon on the back, missile launchers on both sides of the waist, a Zaku Machine Gun, Zaku Bazooka, Heat Hawk, and other armaments. Additionally, the accessories include original model water-slide decals for body markings, which can add richer details to the mobile suit's appearance. The illustration used for the packaging box is designed in the style of 80s Gunpla old kits.
