BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division in Japan has announced today the latest product from the "Macross" series, the "HG (High Grade) 1/100 scale" model kit, "VF-19 Custom Fire Valkyrie Sound Booster Equipped" from "Macross 7", slated for release in May 2024.
The "VF-19 Custom Fire Valkyrie" appearing in "Macross 7" is a special experimental unit modified from the "YF-19 Excalibur" developed by Shinsei Industry for the New U.N. Spacy's "Project Super Nova". It was piloted by Basara Nekki, the lead vocalist of the band FIRE BOMBER, as part of the top-secret "Sound Force Project" to test the song energy system. The aircraft is equipped only with defensive main wing laser cannons and leg micro-missile pods; its primary weapon is the "song" emitted from its massive speakers, and it can even fire special speaker warheads to force opponents to listen to music.
The "HG 1/100 VF-19 Custom Fire Valkyrie Sound Booster Equipped" faithfully recreates the in-show design using multi-color molded parts primarily in orange-red, black, and yellow. It boasts precise and cool detailed sculpting, along with a refined and flexible articulation design. The cockpit canopy is made from a polarizing material whose color changes with the reflection angle. Additionally, it includes five-layer structural color-correcting stickers made with aluminum vapor deposition on PET film, characterized by their extreme thinness, high opacity, and vibrant color reproduction, allowing for easy recreation of the abundant fuselage markings.
The kit can recreate the three transformation forms—FIGHTER, GERWALK, and BATTROID—by replacing some parts. As a result, the BATTROID form achieves a flexible range of motion without complex structures. Not only does the chest feature multi-axis articulation allowing for significant forward and backward tilting, but the shoulder armor also conceals an internal speaker deployment mechanism. Furthermore, the waist and legs incorporate an extendable mechanism to lengthen the body's proportions, enabling the recreation of the taller silhouette seen in the anime.
Accessories include the GUNPOD, shield, a Basara Nekki pilot figure for the cockpit, and a dedicated display stand. It also comes with the large enhanced armament, the "Sound Booster," which can be attached to the back of the unit as an additional thruster in FIGHTER mode. In BATTROID mode, the internal speakers can be deployed, recreating the amplifier that enhances song energy as seen in the series.
