The 'HG (High Grade)' series of 1/144 scale Gunpla, known for its diverse range of mobile suits, produced by the HOBBY Division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company, today announced the latest product from the mobile game Mobile Suit Gundam U.C. ENGAGE, the "HG 1/144 ENGAGE GUNDAM", scheduled for release in May 2024. This product will be sold exclusively on Bandai's official online store, PREMIUM BANDAI.
The RX-78GPZ01 ENGAGE GUNDAM is a mobile suit that fuses the technologies of the historical "Gundam Development Project's" RX-78GP00 Gundam Prototype Unit 0 "BLOSSOM" and the original IF-worldline mobile suit from the game, the RX-78MS00Z Gundam Development Test Unit 0 "ENGAGE ZERO". It achieves high versatility by incorporating features such as high-performance all-purpose capabilities and high-mobility combat. Notably, it inherits ENGAGE ZERO's high expandability, boasting over ten different transformation schemes that allow for enhancements in firepower, defense, mobility, long-range capabilities, and even Newtype-use funnel armaments. It can be described as a mobile suit that freely transforms as it traverses the history of the Universal Century.
The first three-dimensional rendition, the "HG 1/144 ENGAGE GUNDAM", is produced using Bandai's latest color separation and part division technology. It utilizes molded plastic parts to recreate its unique armor curves and the blue and yellow color separation on the chest. It also features flexible movable joints, allowing for dynamic combat poses. In addition to basic armaments such as a beam rifle, beam saber, and shield, it also includes a support unit that allows the ENGAGE GUNDAM to transform.
This familiar support unit originates from the "G-Defenser" in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, which could combine with the Gundam Mk-II to form the Super Gundam. In the mobile game, its design and combat data were referenced to redevelop it as a support unit. It can combine with the ENGAGE GUNDAM to form the "SUPER ENGAGE GUNDAM", which boasts thoroughly enhanced firepower, defense, and cruising range. However, the original flawed combination process from the anime has been abolished, replaced by a form where it is installed before sortie.
The model allows for the installation of the support unit by swapping backpacks to recreate the "SUPER ENGAGE GUNDAM", and it includes its characteristic armament, the "Long-Range Beam Rifle". Furthermore, the backpack's connection joint can also accommodate similarly spec'd backpacks, such as the large booster unit included with the "HG 1/144 GUNDAM DEVELOPMENT TEST UNIT 0 ENGAGE ZERO", allowing for the recreation of the booster-equipped form that also appears in the game.
