The deformed character figure series "Figuarts mini", released by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., launched its latest product "Athrun Zala" simultaneously with the theatrical anime film "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM" on January 26, 2024, with a suggested retail price of 2,970 JPY (tax included).
The other Coordinator protagonist, Athrun Zala, is a red-uniformed elite pilot belonging to the ZAFT military. Not only is he skilled at creating small robots, but he also possesses exceptional abilities, having achieved the top grades in the officer academy's history. He was originally a childhood friend of Kira Yamato, but years later, they unexpectedly reunited on the battlefield as enemies, filled with mutual hatred. After witnessing the tragic plight of war orphans and being instrumental in reconciling Kira and Cagalli, he chose to leave ZAFT and join the independent faction led by Lacus Clyne, becoming a key figure in ending two major wars. Now, in C.E. 75, the setting of "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM," after the great war, the anti-Coordinator organization "Blue Cosmos" continues to stir up conflicts worldwide. The formerly opposing Earth Alliance and P.L.A.N.T., along with the neutral nation Orb, have jointly established the world peace monitoring organization "COMPASS." Athrun has once again returned to the Orb military and secretly assists Kira, Lacus, and others in "COMPASS" as a member of the intelligence organization "Terminal."
The "Figuarts mini Athrun Zala" is based on his pilot suit design from the theatrical version, capturing the character's charm in a deformed, palm-sized proportion with a total height of approximately 9 cm. The distinctive pupils are faithfully reproduced using printing and painting techniques to match the anime's art style. Joints are incorporated in the shoulders and hips, allowing for articulation. By replacing the right hand parts, poses such as holding the helmet or pointing forward can be recreated.
